Brill Selected Journals Open Access Publishing Agreement
Agreement duration: The UNSW agreement is from 1st January 2024 - 31st December 2024. An agreement was also in place from January 1st 2022 & 2023 - December 31st 2022 & 2023.
Summary: Brill publishes journals, books and reference works within the humanities and social science disciplines. The agreement offers UNSW corresponding authors open access publishing in the 30 journals UNSW has read access to in 2024 at no charge to the author.

Number of included articles: There is no limit on the number of articles that can be published by UNSW corresponding authors under the agreement.
Information for authors: See the How to publish with Brill webpage. UNSW corresponding authors must use their UNSW institutional email address (name@unsw.edu.au) to be eligible under this agreement. This agreement allows researchers to publish open access under a CC BY licence. For journal response times between submission and acceptance you should check the specific journal guidelines for accurate information.
Eligible article types: Original Paper, Review, Brief Communication, Correction, Additions.
How to submit your article for open access publishing:
- Follow Brill’s usual article submission process via the journal’s homepage.
- On acceptance of the article, the UNSW corresponding author completes a form (publishing agreement).
- To comply with the Open Access policy the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to either the Published Version of Record or Author Accepted Manuscript, and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.
- The APC will then be waived for authors who
- used their UNSW institutional email address and
- selected UNSW as their institutional affiliation.
Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail) or email addresses affiliated with other organisations, research centres or institutes. Otherwise they may be ineligible under the terms of this agreement.
